Reliance SEZ meets Board’s ApprovalWednesday, June 06, 2007
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Group finally received the go-ahead from the Board of Approval for a 440 acre multi-product Special Economic Zone in Gurgaon , Haryana, and an in-principle approval to its 2,850 hectare port-based SEZ in Rewas, Maharashtra. The approvals, 31 so far, also include GMR’s Hyderabad airport. The Rewas SEZ is strategically located near the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Navi Mumbai and the terminal of the Delhi-Mumbai freight corridor. High speed trains on the corridor will eventually link the SEZs, ports and industrial zones in the area. The Shamshabad greenfield airport in Hyderabad, has also received approval for a 101 hectare multi-product SEZ. In Uttar Pradesh, the new government has expressed its desire to review the SEZ proposals submitted by the previous government. SEZs in question include IT SEZs of DLF, Falcon and Perfect in Noida. The ADAG proposal for an IT SEZ in Noida has already been called off. The Board of Approval has given its assent to a 1,214 acre multiproduct SEZ in Nashik and an in-principle nod for a 2,429 acre multi-producrt zone in Thane. Other approvals include Wipro’s 40 acre SEZ in Hyderabad, SIPCOT’s electronic hardware city stretching 115 acres, and a 14 hectare SEZ promoted by the Guntur municipality in Andhra Pradesh.
