The suspense on the fate of some Special Economic Zones has been lifted, as the Board of Approval met last week to consider the proposals awaiting a decision, and accept new applications.
Consequently, formal approval has been accorded to 22 proposals, while
6 petitions have been granted in principle approvals. An existing in-principle
approval was accorded a formal approval too.
The formal approvals include: IT/ITes SEZ by ETA Technopark in
Tamil Nadu, IT/ITES SEZ by Genpact in Andhra Pradesh; Multiproduct
SEZ by Gopalpur SEZ Ltd in Orissa; IT/ITES SEZ by Shivajimarg Properties,
Delhi ; Biotech SEZ by GIDC, Vadodara, Gujarat; Gems and Jewellery
SEZ by Shirpur Gold Refinery Limited at Dhulia, Maharashtra and 3 SEZs
for Textiles, Leather and Engineering Goods by the Uttar Pradesh State
Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC), at Kanpur.
Of the in-principle approvals granted, notable projects are:
a Multi product SEZ by SRM Infrastructure and a multi services
SEZ by Society for Innovative Education and Development - both
at Alwar, Rajasthan and a Carpet and Handicraft SEZ by UPSIDC
in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh.
