Lucknow
The CityPolitics, tourism and chikan embroidery have kept Lucknow in the limelight rather than any economic achievement. However, despite the lack of political will, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh figures high on Knight Frank’s list of emerging cities. Straddling across the river Gomti, modern Lucknow exhibits all the features of a bustling metropolis emerging from an illustrious past to acquire a contemporary look. The current spate of activity witnessed in the city is largely based on private real estate development supported by the Lucknow Development Authority. Real estate in Lucknow has appreciated in value, following the trend in other parts of the country. Apartment blocks have made an entry into the city known for its sprawling “kothis”, while American food outlets are nudging the local eateries offering their famed delicacies. Lucknow sports an excellent educational infrastructure, housing renowned schools and institutes of higher learning like the IIM. The city has the potential to draw more tourists to its fine heritage structures and handicrafts which have been overshadowed by other cities in the state like Agra and Varanasi. Infrastructure and FacilitiesAs the state capital, Lucknow enjoys good transport links with other cities in and out of Uttar Pradesh. The upcoming Lucknow Bypass and the Lucknow- Kanpur Expressway would considerably improve the city’s links with Kanpur, Rai Barelley, Sitapur, and Sultanpur. Furthermore, the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has envisaged a metro or a monorail for the city, which triggered the investment decisions of real estate developers who entered the Lucknow property market. Lucknow’s real estate boom opened up new localities for residents like Sapru Nagar near Hazratganj and promoted new projects along the Malviya Marg, Rana Pratap Marg, Park Road stretch between Gomti Nagar and Sapru Marg. |
