Science Academy, Washington Inducts Two NRIsTuesday, May 08, 2007
The National Academy of Sciences in Washington has inducted two Indian Americans among 72 others to advise the US Government on policies on science, engineering and medicine. Physicist Katepalli Sreenivasan and agricultural economist Prabhu Pingali are amongst 18 Americans of foreign origin appointed to the Academy. Professor K.Sreenivasan is a distinguished physicist who specializes in the field of fluid dynamics and turbulence. He is presently teaching physics and mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland, where he is also responsible for the Institute for Physical Science and Technology. Pingali completed his PhD in Economist from North California State University and serves as Director of the Agricultural and Development Economics Division of the FAO, United Nations. He has researched extensively on technological change, environment externalities and agricultural policies, and has 9 books and 90 articles to his credit.
