Badal To Work in Welfare of NRIs from PunjabMonday, March 05, 2007
Parkash Singh Badal, who sworn in as Punjab Chief Minister for a record fourth time, expresses concerns for NRIs from Punjab settled overseas. The minister also wants the educated youth of the state to get reasonable employment. Lack of employment prospects and poverty remained big bottlenecks hampering the growth of Punjab and his government envisages to work towards finding a solution to the problems. Four overseas offices of the new NRI ministry will come up soon in the countries including United States, Britain and Canada, which have a sizeable number of NRIs from Punjab. These establishments will help in sorting out their problems. The minister, who inducted 17 cabinet ministers in his government taking it to the maximum permissible strength under the law, ensured to fulfill all promises made by the Shirmomani Akali Dal, a political party recognized in the Indian state of Punjab and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance Badal asked to link minimum support price for farm produce, which gives the cultivation every year, to the country’s price index. The move will help the farmers to get their share according to the price index. The minister assured to see proper application of rules and regulations and if any leniency is noticed in any project sanctioned by the previous Congress Government, a stringent action would be taken. Nothing illegal will be allowed to prevail in the state. There is a dire need to improve industrial scenario in Punjab, but the mega projects sanction by the previous government should not go against the people’s welfare.
