The
US is eagerly waiting for Indian Government’s nod to the entry
of Wal Mart into the country.
India has been making progress on a scale, size and pace that
is unprecedented in its own history. Since India is a an energetic
democracy, such an intense debate over Wal Mart’s entry
into the country is taking place, as the debates take place in
any other democracy, says Gutierrez.
Wal mart’s entry into India will not only be beneficial for
millions of farmers but it would add to the efficiency of smaller
retailers as well.
Foreign investment will not be allowed initially but both the
countries may look forward to partnership structure in wholesale.
It could develop effective outlet for farm products and bring
exclusive advantages to agro-community, says Gutierrez.
With the growth in Indo-US trade in 2006, India’s exports
to the US grew 16 per cent to $22 billion. As for the imports
by India from the US, it is scaling at 26 per cent to $10 billion
in the same time span. The things are going as per the vision
of both the countries to double bilateral trade by 2010.
