The renowned Caparo Group is planning to spread its wings to
India to expand its operations from current five percent to around
one third of the total business, says NRI
industrialist Lord Swraj Paul, Chairman of the Caparo
Group.
The group is spread over at least three continents and operates
sixty percent of its business in Britain,
thirty five percent in the US,
and less than five percent in India, reveals Lord Paul who is
also the British ambassador for Overseas Business.
Lord Paul wanted to retire in the year 1996 but his sons did
not let him go and continued working under their father’s
guidance which has always encouraged them to scale new heights.
One of his sons, Angad is handling the Caparo (India). Moreover,
the group has started shaping up its objective with seven plants
already built in India in the past few years. Another nine plants
are under construction.
74-year-old Lord Paul aims at setting up around a dozen plants
across India to expand the Indian operation to around one third
of the company’s total business.
Lord Paul talks enthusiastically about his newest project Caparo
T1 which is company’s first effort to make a foray into developing
car technology. "It's a racing car, but also designed for the
roads. It will be a two-seater, with a little place in the back,
like the Aston martin," Lord Paul said. And it will retail
at around 200,000 pounds.
