North-Eastern States Join Indian Hospitality BoomThursday, August 23, 2007
Tripura’s capital city Agartala’s rise as an economic growth centre has elicited the attention of real estate developers and hoteliers. Ginger Hotels is one of the several hoteliers to start an establishment in the city, which was inaugurated earlier this week. The state government has welcomed the Ginger Agartala, which is the first three-star hotel in the city. The hotel opens up opportunities for Agartala to host events and conferences as the lack of these were an impediment for the state. With new hotel projects already on the anvil, Agartala is gearing up for a tourism boom to boost its economy, presently banking on oil and natural gas. For Roots Corporation, which runs the Ginger brand, this is its first hotel in the north-east, and the company is deliberating on another in Guwahati. The three-star hotels are reasonably priced and find favour amongst business travellers. The 15-month Ginger Agartala project involved an investment of Rs.15 crore. On the other hand, the Residence chain of boutique hotels and serviced apartments has carved out a niche segment in India’s hospitality segment. It has announced ambitious plans of setting up 10 more such properties by the end of next year. From its current chain in Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad, the company will expand to Chennai, Cochin, Pune, Gurgaon and Noida Related Readings»Indian Hospitality Sector Gears Up to Meet Demand
