The immigration draft features a set of principles has been created by key Republican Congressional representative and is circulated in Washington last week. Along with making temporary visas for undocumented immigrants and new workers, it also makes the rules more stringent for American citizens, who cannot sponsor their parents and children over 21 years and siblings to the US now. The Asian American community is the second largest group of immigrants to enter in the US through either family sponsorship or by being immediate relatives of American citizens. As per the data showcased by the Department of Homeland Security China, Vietnam and India fall among the top ten countries which has large group of immigrants entered through family quotas. As there are a number of Asians who enter the US through family sponsorship, the White House Draft can implement itself in the same way as the Chinese Exclusion Act, the act which excluded Chinese laborers from immigrating to the US for 10 years, says Michael Lin, Executive Director of the Organization of Chinese Americans. The country will not be allowed to do same injustice again. Family is the foundation of American society, Lin said at a teleconference hosted by the Asian American Justice Centre. Also, immigration advocates do not favor the kinds of penalties proposed under the draft White.
