Gurbax Singh Malhi, four-time Canadian-Indian MP on Sunday urged Chief
Minister Parkash Singh Badal to discuss with Centre the issue of setting
up of a trade centre in Canada to assist Punjabi NRIs in investing in
their native state.
Speking on the same he further added that such a centre would facilitate
NRIs settled in Canada to acquire necessary information for setting
up projects with their investment in Punjab.
Gurbax singh was addressing a civic reception in his honour, he also
welcomed the decision of the state government to set up six NRI police
stations in the state.
He said one of the major problems the NRIs face is that of illegal
possession of their property, sometimes even by relatives. "The
NRI police stations will definitely help the NRIs in protecting their
rights," he said.
