Suriname Girl Crowned Miss India WorldwideTuesday, April 10, 2007
Suriname girl Fareisa Joemmanbaks won the title of Miss India Worldwide 2007 at a glittering beauty pageant held in New Jersey. South Africa's Nadia Vorajee and Canada's Sapna Sehravat were adjudged as first runner up and second runner up, respectively. The dazzling show was organized by the India Festival Committee (IFC). Fareisa, 17, is a student of tourism from Paramaribo. In the pageant's crucial talent round, she opted to mesmerize the audience with her belly dance. Her choice definitely made her stand unique among most other contestants who had preferred to perform fusion of Indian classical and the other popular modern dance movements. The intelligence of South African Vorajee let her to grab the position of first runner up. On being asked whom she would like as her dinner partner during the question round, she named Mahatma Gandhi, whose great ideas were first honed in South Africa. The show was arranged at a banquet hall in Fords, New Jersey and was co-hosted by Shweta Kwaatra, a TV celeb and anchor from Mumbai and Pooja Kumar, New York based actress. |
