Five Indian Americans Bag 2007 Guggenheim FellowshipsTuesday, April 17, 2007
Five Indian Americans have bagged the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowships this year. These are the grants that have been awarded annually to professionals who have displayed extra-ordinary capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in arts. The winners selected for their outstanding performance in distinguished fields, are Salil Vadhan, an associate professor at Harvard, Sanjeev Khanna, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Arjun Heimsath, assistant professor at Dartmouth College. The other winners are the renowned author Suketu Mehta for his non fiction book on New York and composer Rudresh Mahanthappa. Guggenheim Fellowships are awarded by the John Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. The organization was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Simon Guggenheim in memory of their son who died on April 26, 1922. The organization has awarded a total of USD 7,600,000 to the winners. |
