The Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Vyalar Ravi shared his ministry’s plans to set up a NRI university under the aegis of the Indira Gandhi National University.

This is part of the government’s plans to set up a ‘knowledge bank’ to draw on the expertise of the non-resident Indian (NRI) doctors, engineers, and a host of qualified professionals in different fields to offer quality education.

The Confederation of Indian Industry is also setting up an independent
trust abroad to facilitate the interests of NRIs in association with the
Overseas Affairs Ministry.

The Indian parliament is considering a collaboration
with more foreign universities to spur the Indian education system.
The Minister also shared facts on the demand for Indian manpower abroad,
especially in the Gulf region.

The UAE and Kuwait have already signed
memoranda of understanding on Indian manpower deployed in these countries,
and agreements with Oman, Qatar and Bahrain would follow soon.
